ACCOMMODATION IN MERU/MT. KENYA

There are several lodges/tented camps and campsites.

Milimani Hotel
This hotel offers good rooms both singles/doubles with attached bathrooms and hot water. There is a disco on weekends.

Country Hotel
This is on the main road and close to the museum it's clean, comfortable, and its own restaurant and lively bar. Has singles/doubles with attached bathrooms with breakfast.

The Valley View Hotel
This hotel has rooms with attached bathrooms with hot water and breakfast is provided. It's clean and tidy and soap and towel are provided. There is a bar and a restaurant and much quieter than the other hotels around it.
There is one campsite managed by (Mountain Rock) and it's the best, very attractive children playground. There is hot shower and flash toilet.

Other accommodations around here include the tree hotels of Treetops belonging to the Block Hotels, The Ark, and Aberdares Country Club of Lonrho Hotels.

Treetops Hotel
This is a private Lodge owned by the Block Hotel Kenya. It provide quality accommodation and the services are excellent. The magnificent views of the water hole is an inspiration in this one of a kind Tree lodge as the animals gather the hole for water. There are not outside vehicles allowed in this private area of Treetops reserve and the atmosphere is great! The treetops will have their vehicles waiting for their respective booked clients at Nanyuki where they will be transferred into the treetops vehicles to avoid intruders to the private park. After a day or two at the treetops their vehicles will again transfer you to Nanyuki town where you vehicle (agent) will be waiting to pick you up for the rest of your trip or, transfer back to Nairobi.

Sweet waters Tented Camp

This belong to the Lonrho hotels Africa, and it is a luxurious accommodation at a private game reserve in tented camps. With great views, Sweet Waters offers an opportunity to watch and photograph animals in their natural habitat at the overlooking nearby Floodlit waterhole as well as great views of the 2nd highest Mountain in Africa, Mt. Kenya. All tents set in a thatched roof , overlooks the waterholes and there are day and night game drives on a 4 x 4 wheel drives as well as bird watching and walking safaris in a company of a game ranger or two.

It is at Sweet Waters that you can have a Camel Safari, and the historical Chimpanzees which makes the purpose of the Sanctuary at the Sweet Waters and the only one of a kind in the Kenyan History. There are 26 orphaned Chimps at the sanctuary in the grasslands of the savannah and the Riverine forest. The abundant excursions within the Ewaso Nyiro river offers a great view of the chimps on a boat cruise.

Olpejeta Ranch House

Olpejeta is a private farm house belonging to the Lonrho hotel group in Nanyuki . The farm house offers ranch offer an hospitality of a kind in the Nanyuki farm house. Set on a 24 acres land at the sweet waters game sanctuary where plenty of wild life is easily spotted. Olpejeta is only 45 minute from Mt. Kenya safari club where you can enjoy all the animals at the waterhole and the salt licking. There is a pool to relax you more after all the days activities.

Aberdare Country club

The aberdares is just a 3 hours drive from Nairobi and belongs to the Lonrho group of Hotels.
Located at the Nanyuki in Mt. Kenya Region, Aberdares Country Club is a highly refereed and nestles on the slopes of Mweiga Hill. Activities involved in here includes Horse riding , tennis courts, swimming, 9 Hole Golf Course, walking safaris, Trout fishing, night game drives and bush banquets among other.

Aberdare Country club is a place out side all the city commotion and quietness, there is peace and many tourists and locals will always go there for a weekend, peace and to relax.

There is good and cheap meals such as fish and chicken.
At the Country hotel A la Carte meals are served. The food is exciting, but it's filling and you can have a beer with your meal. There is also a more upmarket restaurant.
