The
Lake Nakuru Lodge
This
Lodge is located within the park and offers a wonderful accommodation
in the park. Lake Nakuru Lodge is related to Lake Naivasha Lodge in
Naivasha.
Lion
Hill Sarova. This
lodge offers a laxurious accommodation within the Lake Nakuru National
Park. There is a pool, and restaurant and the atmosphere is great with
thousands of Flamingo views at a distance.
Amigos
Guest House
This is on Gusii road and it's a very friendly place to stay and the
best value in this range. The rooms and bathrooms facilities are passably
clean, towels are provided and there is hot water.
This is on the corner of the Government Avenue and West road, which
offers rooms with attached bathroom and balcony and breakfast is included.
The Hotel has its own bar, restaurant and barbecue bar.
Craterview
Hotel
This is a budget hotel based about 5km to Lake Nakuru National Park.
It's a very quiet place and there is hot shower.
Oyster
Shell Restaurant
This is one of the best restaurants in town and it's on Kenyatta Avenue
near the Club road corner. The menu is extensive and includes western
and Indian dishes. It's open daily for lunch and dinner and is very
reasonably priced.
Getting
there and away
There is a rail link to the lakeshore, which branches off from the main
Nairobi to Mombasa line, but there are no passenger services along it.
There's also a minor road from Nairobi (c58), along which two buses
run daily. Both buses pass the junction, which leads to the archaeological
site, about two-km from the main road.
Places
of stay
There are two campsites at the southern end of the lake - Acacia and
Riverside - but there are no facilities and the lake water is totally
unpalatable. Bring all water and food with you if you are intending
to camp there.
Another nice place to stay is the new Papyrus Inn. There are singles/doubles,
which offer bed and breakfast at a reasonable price. There is a bar
and a restaurant. |

There are several budget accommodation possibilities on the lakeshore.
The most popular is Fisherman's Camp on the southern shore. There are
also fully self-contained bandas with four beds in each for a reasonable
price. There is plenty of water and hot shower and very clean toilets.
Fish Eagle Inn Campsites
There's a specific backpackers campsite with cold showers, high-level
toilets on a pleasant grassy under fine old yellow acacia trees. The
other two njoro campsite which is a couple of Kilimanjaro down the west
show.
This is also another very pleasant site with grass and shady acacia
trees. This place has a number of rooms around a spacious lawn. There
are also dormitories at a cheaper price. Rooms here have bathrooms and
hot shower.

to Stay
At Olorgasailie there are three twin-bed bandas for rent, only water
is available so you need to bring your own food.
Robert's
camp
This is a great place with clean showers and toilets. There are also
three double bandas, and they are the best if there is one available,
but demand is heavy at times and it would be wise to do the booking
in advance. The bandas are beautiful, circular, grass-thatched, traditional
style houses, which are as clean as a new pin and furnished with comfortable
beds, a table and chairs and mosquito netting at the windows. |

Bogoria Hotel
This top-end place is very pleasant and set in well-tended gardens,
though a bit expensive. There are single/doubles with half board and
with full board. There is a swimming pool.
Marigat
Inn
This about 1.5km from the main road and it's a pleasant place with friendly
staff and the rooms are arranged around a shady courtyard. There are
single/doubles with shared bathroom facilities, and others with attached
bathrooms at a reasonable price. There is a bar and a restaurant.
Lake
Baringo Club
The rooms here are very pleasant, the cuisine excellent and the staff
are very friendly. Facilities in the club include a swimming pool, dart
boards, table-tennis, badminton court, a library and a whole range of
local excursions including boat trips and bird-watching trips accompanied
by an expert.
Island
camp Baringo
This
is a luxury-tented lodge sited on the extreme southern tip of Ol Kokwa
Island in the lake. It's a beautifully conceived place, with a labyrinth
of stone walls and steps set among flowering trees, and is the perfect
hideaway. There are 25 double tents each with their own shower and toilet,
and all of them have superb views over the lake. Facilities include
bars, a swimming pool and watersports equipment.
