Diving

Diving is one of the many water sport activities in the Kenyan Coast, it involves diving into the deep waters of the Indian Ocean and around the Marine Parks.

Diving in Mombasa North
The commonest Diving spot on the North Coast is around the Malindi Marine National Park which lies a few kilometers north of Watamu and is the oldest Kenya's beach resorts with it's golden sands. The Coral Reef are a home to over one hundred and forty species of hard and soft Corals. The reef provides ideal breeding grounds for fish and other marine life.

Scuba Diving
The Draftwood Club at Silversand Bay is the place for scuba diving. A drive cost about US$60 plus park fees of about US$8. For diving courses the cost is about US$600. This is subject to change and can be confirmed at the time of booking.

Watamu Marine National Park is another Park which stretches along the coast from the Blue Lagoon to Mida Creek. During September and April the diving possibilities are extensive here. There are three dive centres and if you are a qualified diver you need to visit all of them and choose the best for yourself. Diving in Mombasa South
Kisite -Mpunguti Marine National Park has ideal conditions for diving with limpid waters all around, and has over 350 species and exciting variety of coral life.Equipments, field guides are available on board. For booking contact your travel agent and experience a nice trip from 8.30am-4.40pm. Enjoy seafood lunch at Wasini island. Or on board at Wasini Island.

Scuba Diving:
Scuba Diving is one of the common activities on the coast, and it is done by professionals and certified Divers with experience. This practices is carried out in nearly all the hotels or at least in the neighborhood Hotels. It takes Only Certified Divers and also give courses to unexperienced Divers to get ready to Dive, therefore goes underwater with instructors. Below are some recommended Dive courses and orinted.

Dream Diving (South Coast)
Location: Located on the South Coast at the Forest Dream Cottages, Dream dive offers a day trip to the Kisite Marine Park, Drinks on board and Lunch Divers can dive while others snorkel or swim on the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. For more advanced divers, the nearby Nyulli Reefs is a very interesting site and is probably the best of Kenya's Reef and best known for its giant Groupers, big Napeoleon, Wrasse, spectacular coral formations on steeply inclined walls and reef sharks near the deeper sections of the reef. Baracuda's are often seen as reflecting walls of Silver, Dolphins and sometimes the crew can enjoy fishing and much more.

An overnight stay on board Kaskazi
After a days trip to the Marine Parks, there is a time to relax. Kaskazi offers a perfect location and relaxation on board, dinner is served at the middle deck and under the stars above the Indian Ocean. There is always enough time after dinner to discuss all about the next days event. Overnight on board is unforgatable experience in the middle of the Sea and breakfast is served after the first Dive the next morning.
Sailing to further various reefs will give you an opportunity to spot enough dolphins, and if you need to swim with them is allowed ! After lunch you cruise back, and to the jetty-(Shimoni), and transfer to your hotel.

7 days Pemba Island
(Note: This experience is for really spoiled Divers!)
This is special for Divers and fishing experts and lovers. It has to be a certified Diver and not under the age of 12 yrs. This is most recommended cause of security reasons. Sun N Sand Hotel: There is Scuba Dive Shop just on the beach upfront. It is open daily from 8:00 am till late 7:00 pm. All Diving instrument can be hired here.
White Sands Hotel: This Hotel offers Scuba Diving at a very extensive level, the Scuba shop is just at the beach shore and is open daily from 7.00 am till 8:00 pm . The shop which overlooks the pool is very equipped with all diving instruments and is easy for unexperienced divers to take courses at the super standing pool just beside the shop. Other Hotels within the Beach stream line offering Scuba Diving includes the Nyali Beach Hotel, Bamburi Beach Hotel, Severine & Neptune Beach, Plaza Beach Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel, etc.

The Creek Safari:
This include a crews by a certified Captain on a glass bottom Boat visiting the Mtwapa Creek, where you will see some villages(mainly Giriamas), traditional Dancers, the Snake and Crocodile Park as well as the Kenyas Marine through the glass Bottom for as many species of fish our Marine Park can hold in the Indian Ocean. Snorkeling and swimming is also a factor here where they provide masks for overview. This is commonly used as a water sport excursion and can also be extended to be a luncheon excursion that will includes a sea food lunch as well but this will be at a different price.

Goggling and Marine viewing only.
This includes a few hours' cruise on a glass bottom Boat and a visit to the Marine Park for all sorts of fish species in the Indian Ocean

Wind Surfing
Windsurfing is full of fun and can also be done by beginners for fun, this involves some tuition and an instructor along. It is normaly one or two hours' activity.

Deep Sea Fishing.
Deep sea fishing is a water sport activity for the majority who wants to have the biggest catch! With fully equipped fishing boats and highly experienced crews and captain, the team share a full or half day on the deep waters of the Indian ocean, to return with their catch in the evening. It should have a minimum of 4 persons for the trip.
The package includes pick ups and drop off to your respective Hotels.

Fishing Seasons
The season starts in August and goes through to April. Good catches of Tuna and Wahoo are made in September and October, while December to March is recognized as the best time for billfish. The Indian Ocean of Kenyan Coast carries a lot of Fish species and this can be identified within the Marine Parks or the Creeks.

Recommended/Restrictions
Children of below 6 are not allowed to go outside the reef.
Hats, Sunglasses, and long sleeved shirts are recommended.
Special sea foods can be arranged on request, but in advance booking.

James Adcock Fishing Ltd.
Location: Located on the North Coast at the Mooring restaurant in Mtwapa.
James Adcock is one of the firs Deep Sea Fishing firm within the North Coast yet with a standard. The Boats, Vuma 0809's ,Oona A 27 ft, and Samvuke A 29 ft. have been highly maintained and fishing skills have been of high quality. The fishing areas include the Mombasa Indian Ocean and the Mtwapa Creek. These areas are excellent and many large fish have been taken in these waters.
Ground fishing: this includes Drifting Fishing outside the reef producing a large variety of edible Fish. A number of game fish including Marlin, Sail fish, Shark, and Kingfish are caught in this way. Fishing inside the Reef with a light kine is fun and ideal suited to people with children or those who suffer from seasickness.

Vuma is a A 31 ft flybridge cabincruieser powered by twin outboard engines. This craft has earned a reputation for being one of the most successful on the Kenyan Coast.
Oona is an A 27 ft. Flybridge cabin cruiser powered by twin 40H.p. outboard Engines. A very lucky boat and one of the cheapest for its size on the Kenyan Coast.
Samvuke is a A 29 ft. Fibreglass Sesse canoe powered by outboard engines. Ideal for inshore and spin fishing and also game fishing especially with light tackle. This craft is fast, has built in floatation and is very stable in rough seas.

Soft drinks are available on board but no lunch unless separately arranged.
2 of the boats VUMA and OONA are fitted with toilettes.
